Making and Maturing Disciples of Christ

What is a Christian?

"I have always been a Christian"
"I believe in doing good"
"I believe in God"

People often say these things, but this is not the heart of what it means to be a Christian.

What's it all about?

Being a Christian is about knowing Jesus Christ. It is about a relationship with God, rather than religion. One of the most famous verses in the Bible sums up the heart of the Christian Faith.

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16)

Who is Jesus Christ?

He is the most amazing man who ever lived. He is God and Man in the same person - the Son of God. Only Jesus can forgive, heal and save people.

Why did he come?

To clean up the mess we had got into. The Bible is clear about our need of Jesus because of our sin. In Romans. 3:23 it says:

"for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,"

We all sin every day. Sin is like personal pollution, a barrier a blockage or a disease that keeps us far from God. It separates us from God, and will be fatal if it is not taken away (John 8:34, Romans 3.23; Isaiah 59:1-2). Jesus death on the cross dealt with sin. In 1 Peter 3:18 it says:

"For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God."

Jesus died and rose again, and so broke the power of sin, so we have a way open to God - through him.

How can I become a Christian?

If we want relationships restored, there are four steps we need to take. As simple as ABCD - but it will change your life forever, as you give your life totally to God:

ADMIT - that I need God and that my sin separates me from Him.
BELIEVE - that Jesus died and rose again for me to take my sin away and open up the way to God. This is putting your faith in Jesus.
CONSIDER - that by asking Jesus to forgive and save you, that you now need to make God the first priority in your life. He wants to be Lord of all your life and will transform you into the person you were created to be.
DECIDE - that from this day you will live for God. Turn to him and away from your old sinful ways. Allow God to make a real difference in you and get connected to a church.
